Tuna caught on day two

Tuna caught on day two

There were no more marlin but a 62 kilogram big-eye tuna was landed on the second day of the Gisborne-Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club’s Liquorland Marlin and Tuna Hunt yesterday.

A tuna has its weight doubled for the competition. It was caught by Karl Macpherson, fishing off Pig Dog.

This places him third on the leaderboard behind Scott Arnold’s 128kg marlin in second place and Mike Bond’s 131.45kg marlin in the lead.

Murray Doleman is in fourth place with a 119kg marlin.

Fishing club president Roger Faber said boats were out again today in conditions “slightly better than yesterday”. There should be four days of fishing with similar conditions forecast for tomorrow, the last day of the contest.

One fisherman has had luck on his side in the clubrooms. Alex Ritchie’s name was drawn out on both of the first two nights and he won the major lucky angler prize of a $1500 rod and reel.
